Hump Day: Why Wednesday Could Be the Perfect Day for Pilates

Is it just me, or does Wednesday sometimes feel like the longest day of the week? Monday feels like a fresh start. Tuesday… well, you’re getting into the week. Thursday feels like you can almost see Friday. But Wednesday?
Wednesday is the hump.
You’re halfway through the working week, the weekend still feels a little too far away, and if you’re anything like me, your motivation may have started to disappear somewhere around Tuesday afternoon!
So why not use Wednesday to your advantage? Instead of dragging yourself over the midweek hump, why not Pilates your way over it?
Wednesday can be the perfect day to move
By Wednesday, you’ve already done a couple of days of work, school runs, emails, chores, appointments and everything else that fills up your week.
You might be sitting at your desk thinking:
"I could really do with a stretch."
Or perhaps your shoulders are creeping towards your ears, your back is feeling a little stiff and you've spent far too long sitting down. This is where getting yourself to Pilates can make such a difference.
You get an hour to stop.
To move.
To breathe.
To concentrate on something other than your never-ending to-do list.
And you leave feeling like you've pressed the reset button.
Pilates can give you a midweek boost
Exercise isn't just about getting fitter or stronger. It's also about how you feel afterwards. A Pilates class can give you the opportunity to:
Move your spine and joints
Work your muscles
Challenge your balance and coordination
Improve your mobility
Take some time away from your screens
Focus on yourself for an hour
Get that lovely "I've actually done something for me" feeling
And let's face it, sometimes that's exactly what we need by Wednesday.
Don't wait until Monday
There's something about Monday that makes us think we need to start everything again.
Monday I'll eat better.
Monday I'll exercise.
Monday I'll get organised.
Monday I'll...
You get the idea! But why wait?
Wednesday is already here.
You don't need to wait for the beginning of the week to make a positive choice. In fact, breaking up your week with a Wednesday class can make your exercise routine feel much more manageable. Rather than thinking:
"I need to get through the whole week."
You can think:
"I'll get myself to Pilates on Wednesday and then I'll take it from there."
It can break up your week
One of the things I love about a Wednesday class is that it gives your week some structure.
Instead of work, work, work, work, work... You've got something in the middle that's just for you. It becomes a little marker in your week.
Monday — get going.
Tuesday — keep going.
Wednesday — Pilates!
Thursday — nearly there.
Friday — hooray!
And suddenly the week doesn't feel quite so endless.
And you don't have to be "good" at Pilates
Perhaps you've been thinking about coming to a class but you're worried you're not flexible enough. Or strong enough. Or coordinated enough. Or perhaps you haven't exercised for a while and you're worried everyone else will know what they're doing while you're wondering which leg goes where! Don't worry. Pilates isn't about being perfect. You don't need to arrive already fit. You don't need to touch your toes. You don't need to know what you're doing. That's what the class is for. You come as you are and we work from there.
Wednesday could become your favourite day
Imagine getting to Wednesday and thinking:
"I've got Pilates tonight."
Not:
"Oh no, it's Wednesday."
But:
"Lovely. I've got an hour for me."
And afterwards, you get to go home knowing you've moved your body, worked your muscles and done something positive for yourself. That's a pretty good way to get over the hump.
So, are you ready to hump day?
If your week is feeling a little bit meh, perhaps what you need isn't another coffee.
Perhaps it's a Pilates class. Come and move, stretch, strengthen, have a giggle and get yourself over that midweek hump.
Wednesday could be the perfect little reset in the middle of your week.
And remember...
You don't have to wait until Monday.
You don't have to wait until January.
You don't have to wait until you feel fitter.
Just come along and start where you are.
I'll see you on the mat!
